The reason being is an expedition I have been asked to be part of for the next two months. There will be updates and pictures when possible of this journey. The idea is to sail aboard the 'Sea Dragon' and collect samples of plastic debri in the infamous plastic gyre of the north pacific. We will sail over two months from the marshal islands to Japan and then east again to Hawaii. It should be fun..... I am so excited to see a number of art theory's come to life in this piece. I have been so excited about this piece, and the recations I get from it are motivating as well. "Homecoming" is a piece ment to evoke deep emotions, with the possibility of hopes realized, but also convey the difficulties associated with having loved ones in our lives. I have tried to purposefully keep it somewhat impressionistic, so that each persons personal memories and experiences can find a place in this piece.

I am really excited about this one!

Not a completely origional idea, but I think Ive put a twist on it of my own. These are the first two I made trying to figure things out. I think they are super cool. Here are some Pics of the final Clay before it got molded. It is a really awesome piece (I am biased of course!). The piece is designed to create a story telling experience, and occupies a visual and physical space that I am proud of. Dawn Breaker, the first piece in the series just came out of the foundry, and looks great, so I have high hopes for this second in the series!

It has finally come out of the Black Hills Bronze foundry in South Dakota, and I am really proud of it. The piece looks different in metal, as they always do. It has made me start to focus more now on the patina process and how the base of a piece works to "finish" the sculpture. There is always room for improvement, but seeing how far you have come sure feels great. The following pictures follow some of the process at the foundry. The individual broze pieces are welded togther, tooled, heated, patinaed, and then mounted on the base for the final look over. Its a hugely time consuming process that gives much added value to the finished work when you understand everything that goes into each individual piece.

A 6" beaver. Its title is "Got a Leak?". Its pretty self explanatory. As it turns you can see (I HOPE) how I have tried to get your eye to jump, roll, and slide along the pieces features. You go from the face, to th branch in his hand, around to his tail, which kicks you towards his feet and right hand, then back to his face...... Thats the idea at least.

Last night I sat down and started to really study the facial features. Most of the faces i have done are smaller, and the details can be hidden, by, um, the details..... So in a effort to improve, I have been working on a few new things, and studying the anatomy more on a larger scale. This old man came out of the clay quite quickly. I think he was always there.
